Court in Kaeleer
Court in the Blood is relatively simple but also complex at the same time. There are, traditionally, thirteen "Circles" in a Queen's court. Her First Circle is made of twelve Jeweled males. There are four appointed offices in the First Circle, traditionally held by males. A Steward of the Court handles all the Queen's paper affairs including handling her money, tabs, and other affairs. A First Escort acts as the Queen's official Escort and accompanies her to foreign territories, new places, and is typically the one who goes with her as a primary guard. Similarly, the Master of the Guard handles guard details and decides the Queen's additional escorts, manages any defenses necessary, and protects the Queen's land. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, is the Consort. The Consort is the Queen's lover, friend, and protector amongst all other roles held by males in her First Circle. A Consort may also be the Queen's husband, but the two are not necessarily hand-in-hand.
Darker-Jeweled males can serve in a lighter-Jeweled Queen's court. For example, a Black-Jeweled Warlord Prince could serve in a Green-Jeweled Queen's court.
However, any territory that a Queen reigns over is also manned by a warrior, most often a Warlord Prince. For example, Daemon SaDiablo was the Warlord Prince of Dhemlan, whereas Lucivar Yaslana was the Warlord Prince of Ebon-Rih, a territory that belongs to the Eyriens. Saetan SaDiablo, the patriarch of the SaDiablo family, was ruled the Warlord Prince of Hell until his passing. Upon his death, Daemon inherited those rights and currently resides in Hell as a Guardian, awaiting the next Witch or Queen that calls to his soul.
It generally goes that the higher Circle you serve (Fifth Circle, Sixth Circle, Seventh Circle, etc.) the lesser important role you serve in the Queen's court.
Additionally, a court can appoint a Court Healer and a Court Black Widow, who will oversee the introduction of, and training of, any Black Widows in that Queen's territory. It's important to note that even members in the "higher" levels of court (ie. Fifth, Sixth, etc.) can still be important. Marian Yaslana, wedded to Lucivar Yaslana, was Eighth Circle in Jaenelle Angelline's court, but she was an integral part of the court's dynamics and a valued character in the books.
