The Hourglass
There are three levels to training in the Hourglass. First is apprentice, then journeymaid, then you are a full Black Widow. All three wear an Hourglass charm, as both a recognition and a warning about the witch who wears it. The hourglass charm is filled with gold dust that's distributed differently based on your level of training.
An apprentice's hourglass is half full, the gold dust held at the top of the charm. This signifies that she is new at her training. A journeymaid's hourglass dust is distributed halfway through each, poised in the center of the hourglass, signifying that she is halfway through her training. Once graduating to Black Widow, all the gold dust is at the bottom of the hourglass, showing clearly that this Black Widow could be a threat or an asset, as her training is complete.
The Hourglass Craft is no simple one. It can take years, even decades, to fully learn the Craft, as weaving webs is tricky business. There are many different kinds of webs one can weave- these include, but don't limit to, healing webs, witch-storm webs, webs activated by blood or pain, and many others. The Blood who are Black Widows- trained or untrained- have a naturally high immunity to poisons due to the snake's tooth hidden under the ring finger of the Blood's left hand. This snake's tooth holds venom and if not milked of its venom (or the venom isn't used), it can crystallize inside the nail and become extremely painful or impossible to extract. However, a talented Healer or fellow Black Widow can possibly help relieve this pain/ache by making a dissolution of poisons that ease the passing of the crystallized venom. An Hourglass Craft apprentice is protected by the Hourglass and usually begins her training after she makes her Offering to the Darkness, or at least sometime around then. Occasionally, a witch will make her Offering while in the Hourglass training and continues her training until she is classified as a Black Widow.
