Jaenelle Angelline: Witch, the Living Legend
Jaenelle Angelline was born as the daughter of Leland Benedict and Phillip Alexander.
However, at her Birthright Ceremony, paternity rights were granted to Robert Benedict, who was Leland's legal husband. Jaenelle was the granddaughter to Alexandra Angelline, and the half-sister to Wilhelmina Benedict.
She wore no visible Jewels and was horrible at basic Craft- moving her shoes, creating a Craft cabinet (an invisible cabinet that holds precious items, controlled by Craft) and other basic Craft. She was viewed as a failure and an eccentric child. She got uncut Jewels from Lorn- she received one Jewel in every rank from White to Ebon-Gray and 13 uncut Black Jewels, given to her personally by the Prince of the Dragons. As an eccentric child, she was placed in Briarwood. Briarwood was a child insane asylum, most especiallly for little girls, run by powerful men such as Jaenelle's illegitimate father, Robert Benedict. However, the little girls in that place were violated horribly, and as a result, Jaenelle's "treatments" became more extended.
As Jaenelle got older, she heard summons from various people asking for a Queen. One such summons was from Lucivar Yaslana. He prayed for a strong Queen he could be proud to serve and consider a friend. In her adventures, Jaenelle also meets Kaetien, the Warlord Prince of the Unicorns, who quickly became her first friend in the realm of Kaeleer. She then built a full-colored butterfly on the cildru dyathe island. The cildru dyathe island is the island in Hell reserved for young children and teens who died and made the transition to demon-dead. Hell is a bleak place, full of grays, blacks, and whites, and the full-color butterfly brought Jaenelle to Saetan SaDiablo's attention.
She is brought in front of Saetan, and requests he becomes her mentor. He accepts this position, and soon after, she begins to learn from Andulvar and Prothvar. Andulvar was considered the "Demon Prince", and was the Eyrien Warlord Prince who worked beside Satan to better control Hell. His grandson, Prothvar, was his left-hand man and helped teach Jaenelle the Eyrien ways; she was taught to fight with Eyrien fighting sticks, bow and arrow, and other various weapons. She trains under these powerful mentors between the ages of seven and twelve, and then resumes her training after turning fourteen.
She was sent to Briarwood more often and longer, but she builds a bridge between Chaillot, where she lived, into the cildru dyathe island for all the children who died at Briarwood. This was her first and most exemplary example of powerful magic- no such bridge had ever been made befofre. She erects a barrier around Beldon Mor to keep the Guardians in her life out of the city- she made the barrier out of an impenetrable mist over the island of Beldon Mor.
She indirectly meets Daemon SaDiablo through Saetan, and heals the man who had received a brutal whipping. She is a very gifted healer, and heals many of the people who work for Alexandra Angelline on the Angelline estate. She's also noted to be a great horserider, and often saddles and rides the temperamental black stallion named Dark Dancer, who is also called Demon by the stablehands at the barn on the Angelline estate.
Jaenelle resides in her home with Daemon SaDiablo when he comes to live at the Angelline estate, sent there by Dorothea SaDiablo to serve as a pleasure-slave to Alexandra Angelline. Soon thereafter, she meets Surreal, the illegitimate daughter of Kartane SaDiablo, who is Dorothea's son, and delivers a message from Titian, Surreal's mother.
Saetan is shocked when he learns his apprentice is practicing the Hourglass Craft with none other than the first web-weavers, the Arachna, and is training under the Arachnae Queen. During one of her stays at Briarwood, Jaenelle loses a friend named Rose, who is a victim of one of Briarwood's "uncles". The uncles were the powerful men who violated the little girls at Briarwood. She had also lost many friends over the year she'd been gone from Hell. She waves a tangled web over Briarwood, which will activate if Jaenelle's blood is spilled, and learns to hate.
Later on, she protects Wilhelmina from Uncle Bobby, Robert Benedict, and is thrown back into Briarwood for this. She is heavily sedated, then drugged with a large amount of safframate, which is an aphrodisiac drug and is savagely raped by Greer, who also killed Surreal's mother, Titian. Jaenelle descends into her abyss, a place where power is reserved, and fixes Daemon's shattered chalice. A shattered chalice implies a broken mind. She breaks her body and is convinced by Daemon SaDiablo to come out of the abyss, forcing her to heal her savaged body, and is in a comatose state for nearly two years. In that two years, she remains at the Keep in EbonAskavi, watched over by a combination of Draca, Lorn, Geoffrey, and Saetan.
Before the full two years occurs, she is called by a friend from the cildru dyathe island, Char. They played the Blood version of tag, "catch me, find me". He makes a "catch me, find me" call and Jaenelle heals her chalice. Even after repairing her body and repairing her chalice, Jaenelle is distant to her adopted family, and treats her physical body with an insane amount of disdain.
She attends school with Beron, Sylvia's oldest son. Sylvia is the reigning Queen of Dhemlan in Kaeleer and converses with Saetan, Jaenelle's adoptive father, about Jaenelle and her activities in and out of school. Jaenelle makes an attempt to learn basic Craft under Luthvian, a talented Healer who is also Lucivar Yaslana's mother. Jaenelle also walks into the Twisted Kingdom, rescuing Tersa, Daemon's mother, and bringing her as close to the edge of the Twisted Kingdom as Tersa is willing to go.
She is reunited with her close friends from various places in Kaeleer and Terrielle, including their "boyos", during the summer of her fifteenth birthday. She spends the time with friends, polishing their skills in Craft, and is taught art and dance. Art is taught by Dujae, a demon-dead artist who helped Saetan decorate both Hell and the Hall in Kaeleer. She is taught dance by Rainier, a talented dancer. Dujae becomes part of the Second Circle of Court, and Rainier becomes Daemon's assistant.
It is later revealed that Jaenelle has the "triple gift"; she is a Queen, Black Widow, and Healer combined in one powerful body. She is one of three females under Saetan's "control", as pitiful as it is, with this triple gift. Karla of Glacia, and Gabrielle of Dea al Mon, also contained the triple gift.
After many summers spent in peace, the Dark Council- the leaders of the Blood- call upon Saetan SaDiablo and Jaenelle Angelline in order to revoke Saetan's paternal rights. However, Jaenelle goes to bat to them after saying she will "await the Council to place her with a new tutor/father at the rise of the next sun". However, she literally forces the sun to stop rising for all the Blood, excluding the animals and the land. This lasts three days, though none of the animals and the land weren't harmed- this spell was only for the Blood. The Dark Council rethink their decision and allow Jaenelle to remain in her home.
Soon thereafter, Lucivar makes a dive into the most dangerous of flying Runs for Eyriens near Askavi. Jaenelle finds him and heals his broken body and wings, and together, they return to SaDiablo Hall. They proceed to drive Saetan crazy with their brotherly and sisterly antics.
A massive battle awakens and Lucivar goes to war against Jhinkas, a tribe of wildmen who are intent on destroying the Blood. With him comes Jaenelle, who is acting as Healer to the people. Before the last patient's death, Jaenelle unleashes a small bit of her power and immediately eliminates over five-thousand Jhinka in under thirty seconds.
As time goes on, memories of Daemon come into Jaenelle's mind and she uses her Craft as a Black Widow to craft a shadow- a living, breathing copy of a person. She tracks down Surreal and the two pair up to help get Daemon out of the Twisted Kingdom. During her whole life, Jaenelle had been watched and tracked by Dorothea and Heketah, and continues to be watched throughout the Jhinka attack, which had been orchestrated by Heketah and Dorothea.
At the age of twenty-five, Jaenelle is given her own summer home in Scelt, where the kindred Scelties reside. She is in Scelt when an attack on the unicorns is done and holds the dying demon-dead head of her first friend, Kaetien. He was the recognized Warlord Prince of Unicorns and his death devastated all of the unicorns, including Jaenelle and the SaDiablo family. After the slaughter, Jaenelle was gifted with Kaetien's horn, the only thing remaining of the Warlord Prince. She turns it into her scepter, and goes to the Dark Council to convince them to leave claimed land alone. They deny her, claiming that kindred are not Blood and thus, have no rights to that land.
It was at this time that Jaenelle formally set up her Court. She had the traditional thirteen Circles; among the appointed roles were Saetan, as her Steward of the Court- Lucivar, as her First Escort- and Andulvar, as her Master of the Guard. She also made the Offering to the Darkness at the time, and came out wearing the Ebony- an unseen, unknown Jewel gifted to her by Lorn.
The friends and family she'd made during her time in Kaeleer formally signed over their territories to her. Amongst them were Glacia, Arceria, Centuaran, and others. She ruled everything but Little Terrielle and teh Dark Council's island now belonged to Ebon-Askavi, where Jaenelle had her seat. This made Jaenelle, Witch, their Queen. She appeared before the Dark Council once more and presented all the territories in her control. She warned all of the members of the Dark Council to stay out of her land and then disappeared again.
Soon after, she wove a tangled web over the kindred that would, ultimately, make the poachers that hunted the kindred for their pelts slaughter one another and return with pelts made from human skin.
A young Purple Dusk hearth-witch named Marian is placed in Jaenelle's court under the Eight Circle. Jaenelle places Marian into Lucivar's home as his homekeeper/maid and the two become a married couple; not long after that, Marian becomes pregnant and gifts the coven with their first child, Daemonar.
It's important to note that during her life, Jaenelle made regular, yearly visits around the kindred territories, ensuring her weaved web was active and making sure the kindred were safe. She is later reunited with Daemon and Wilhelmina, who had been waiting in Little Terrielle to be placed with a Court. She struggles with her desires for Daemon as her Consort and not long after the pair live together, the Angelline family pays Jaenelle's court a visit.
Jaenelle is enraged and executes an escort brought by Alexandra, as the escort had tried to abduct Wilhelmina through the process of drugging her. During the fight that occurred to protect Wilhelmina's protection, an Arcerian Prince named Prince DeJaal. She also nearly kills Vania, a minor Queen in Chaillot, for making a member of Jaenelle's Court suffer due to her unwanted sexual advances. The man was named Aaron and was both a married man and a Warlord Prince. As such, his pride is fierce and his body is protected through Jaenelle and his wife. During this (unwanted) family visit, Jaenelle warns Alexandra several times to keep her people in check, but Alexandra refuses her as Jaenelle is "not her Queen", nor is she "any Queen at all". Alexandra demands an audience with the true Queen of Askavi and Jaenelle accepts her offer.
Jaenelle summons Alexandra in front of the Dark Throne in Askavi and shows her Witch's form. Witch is described as having a pelt of fur, not made with a skin but instead her own skin, and a small spiral horn in the center of her forehead. She possesses a small fawn's tail and has striped fur. She is called a monster by Alexandra, and as a result, Alexandra is broken back to basic Craft and is discarded from Askavi, along with the rest of her accompanied escorts and the Queens who had come to Askavi with Alexandra. Jaenelle struggles to recover from the emotional wounds left by her family and turns to Surreal, who had come to live with the SaDiablo family. She asks Surreal about courting Daemon and how to go about it properly, and soon thereafter, Jaenelle formally recognizes Daemon as her Consort and lover in every way.
Together, the SaDiablo family celebrates Winsol; this includes Surreal, Jaenelle's entire Court, and Daemon, Lucivar, and Saetan. She was the Queen everyone wanted; she was dreams made flesh, as the Arachna put it. She was crafted from the kindred's dream of protection, from Daemon and Lucivar's need to serve a rightful Queen, and other various people dreaming of a proper Queen to rule them.
However, the happy times don't last; Dorothea and Heketah baited Kaeleer to go into war and Jaenelle refuses. She summons the men and women of her Court to the Keep in Askavi, refusing to let them defend their lands and fight. Witch comes to terms with the fact that she alone must go to war for Kaeleer, and struggles with finding a way to protect some of the Blood while killing others. She cannot think of a way until Daemon presents her with one; a spell that will only kill the Blood tainted by Dorothea and Heketah, which he had learned from Jared, Daemon's personal tailor. Jared had learned it from the Gray Lady, a legend amongst the Blood.
In preparation for the war, Jaenelle summons all the demon-dead. Most notable are Andulvar and Prothvar, who had died on the battlefield of the last war between Kaeleer and Terrielle. She requests that they step onto one last battlefield, as grandfather and grandson, to create a shield for the living to be saved from harm produced by Jaenelle's witch-storm.
Drawn in by a trap, Saetan and Lucivar are in Dorothea and Heketah's clutches, and Jaenelle still refuses to act. This causes a lot of tension amongst the people in the Keep, though Tersa and Draca insist that the Blood in the Keep trust their Queen and Witch to find a solution. Jaenelle's solution is to send Daemon to buy her time- seventy-two hours to be exact- and promises Daemon a wedding ring when he returns. He understands and accepts this promise, but a small part of his mind tells him that she doesn't except to survive the backlash of her own power after being drained so thoroughly.
Jaenelle needed those seventy-two hours to reach the full depth of her power. Her Offering to the Darkness had taken three days and three nights; descending that deep was a challenge, though she does it. She unleashes her full strength, saving the Shadow Realm (Kaeleer) and wiping out the taint from the Blood. It's important to note that Jaenelle never hurt the land in this process; the land itself was safe. In this wiping out of the taint, she did however, kill over two-thirds of the Blood. The other third had been broken back to basic Craft, though a few were capable of more advanced Craft and preserved their Jewels.
During this process, Jaenelle's body is torn to pieces and she's in danger of being killed. And Witch does not become a Guardian, or demon-dead. She fades into the Darkness. However, she's saved by being saved by a combination of Saetan, Lucivar, and Daemon- who Lorn called the "Queen's Triangle". She is able to anchor herself to her flesh, and is healed through the kindred's massive efforts. Everyone contributed in some way or another and she is healed. She rises too soon from the healing web, hearing Daemon's cries of grief in the Black, and she is awoken to being weak and in agonizing pain. She is fragile, but she slowly heals all her wounds. As a result, she no longer wears the Ebony- but she is gifted with the Twilight's Dawn Jewel, a Jewel that combines the strengths of all thirteen Jewels and is completely unique to Jaenelle. She gets married to Daemon in a secret ceremony in Sceval, and continues to have minor battles with various evil people, including a half-Blood who hated the Blood and attempted to kill Surreal.
During her healing and in the time after, Jaenelle is often questioned as to why she no longer wears the Ebony and is criticized for being weaker. She learns to help people understand that she no longer wants, or needs, that kind of power, and she can finally do the basic Craft she's always been abysmal at. She signs on to be the new queen of Halaway, the land Sylvia had once reigned over, for a five-year contract. She lives a quiet life, an extra ordinary one, as she had always wanted. She remained every bit of the Jaenelle everyone knew and loved, and died peacefully in her sleep at the age of ninety-seven. She allowed Daemon a year of grief to mourn her passing, and although she was just a whisper in the Darkness, she remained a strong dreamer for Daemon to find love, and have a child with Surreal.
As a result, Daemon and Surreal become married after Surreal becomes pregnant with her and Daemon's one and only child, whom they birth and named Jaenelle Saetien, after a combination of Jaenelle and Saetan, who hadn't waited long after Jaenelle Angelline's death to join her in the Darkness. Jaenelle Angelline helped shape Jaenelle Saetien, who was a Witch reincarnate of sorts, and assisted her with her Birthright Ceremony. She gifted her with a Twilight's Dawn that was unique only to Jaenelle Saetien.
Ultimately, the family carried on- but none would ever forget the blonde-haired, blue-eyed girl who changed their lives forever.
However, at her Birthright Ceremony, paternity rights were granted to Robert Benedict, who was Leland's legal husband. Jaenelle was the granddaughter to Alexandra Angelline, and the half-sister to Wilhelmina Benedict.
